Sometimes, we as Christ followers can get so caught up in having a “personal relationship with Jesus” that we can shrink God down to a pocket-sized god. We want to have a friend in Jesus, to have a Lord that walks with me and talks with me in intimate communion.

That’s certainly one way to relate to the Almighty, but there’s so much more.

Stop for a minute and think about God. Try, even for a minute, to wrap your human mind around the idea of God who is everything—and more besides. God who has been around before time, is around now, and will be around after time no longer exists. God whose very existence and essence is Love—for all of Creation. No exclusions.

God who, even on your very worst day, when you feel ugly inside and out, looks at you with adoring eyes and actually wants you to invite God into that intimate personal relationship.

Seriously. What’s not to like about God who could choose to punish and judge—but instead prioritizes Love?

Monday Pause today and count a few blessings. If you can, thank someone who made your way easier. Ezekiel 34:25-27

Tuesday Do you struggle to see the Imago Dei, the image of God, when you look in the mirror? Pray today for a loving heart—for yourself. Genesis 1:26-27

Wednesday Be honest with yourself. Is there someone or something against which you find yourself innately biased? Confess to God and ask for peace. Genesis 21:8-13

Thursday Just for fun—read the back of one of your bills or statements. Praise God that God doesn’t hold us to such legal requirements, but simply loves us. Period. Psalm 139

Friday Take time today to call a friend or family member with whom you’ve lost touch. If there are fences to mend, try to mend them. Genesis 28:10-17

Saturday As you pray for yourself today, spend time in silence and meditate on God’s unconditional love for you, God’s beloved child. Philippians 1:9-11

Sunday Greet one another in Christian love. Worship and praise the God who loves us just because, and is always proud of us, no matter what. Amen? 1 Kings 8:22-24

I can say for the first time that I am not afraid, and while this is a feeling that can undoubtedly change with time, I feel cradled by this universe 
and the immense love that comes from it.

What are you waiting for?

  The waiting is the hardest part. –Tom Petty   We spend a lot of time waiting. Waiting for the coffee to finish dripping. Waiting for the light to turn green. Waiting for the next available agent. It’s inevitable, really. We cannot always be first, and if we aren’t first, we’ll have to wait. But I think the more important thing is to ask yourself: How am I at waiting? Do I find myself getting anxious and fidgety? Am I worrying about things not going the way I really need them to go? Is my attitude rubbing off on people around me? The best way to wait is not to worry where we are in line, or gripe about wasted time. The best way to wait—is to be right there , in the moment of waiting. Don't be afraid.

But when pressed, many people, believers and non-believers alike, will admit that the one thing they fear most, at the core of their being, is death.
