What’s it worth to you?

When you get to a place where you understand that love and belonging, your worthiness, is a birthright and not something you have to earn, anything is possible. –Brene Brown

We have become a deeply consumer-driven society. We are convinced that money can buy happiness—or at least, money can buy more stuff, which is supposed to make us happier. Everything seems to come with a price tag.

And on top of that, we talk about love as if it, too, is something we can purchase. It’s become a cheapened emotion: We love our car, we love that new café on the corner. And we simply love what you’ve done with your hair!

Now seems like the perfect time to remember that nothing you can buy, nothing you can say (good or not so good)—nothing you can do with your hair changes God’s Love for you. Nothing.

In the eyes of the Almighty, you are absolutely perfect, just the way you were created. And as soon as we internalize that message and believe it for ourselves, we change. We begin to find satisfaction in the ordinary, everyday things.

Open your hands and your heart. Allow the One who created the universe to find a place in your life. The grace God offers is for each of us—and for you, too.

Monday It is nearly fall. Look around you for signs of the season, and thank God for his faithfulness in every season. Jeremiah 8:20-9:1

Tuesday God’s creation is continually changing, becoming new or renewing. Resolve to try something new today: maybe a new food or a new exercise. Reflect. Psalm 113

Wednesday This season also brings fresh smells all its own. Step outside, close your eyes and breathe in the fragrances that surround you. What did you smell? 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Thursday Is there a garden in your neighborhood? A window box or potted herbs? Pause and look closely at what is happening in these places as the seasons change. Give thanks for this miraculous process. 1 Timothy 2:5-7

Friday Autumn is a beautiful time for outdoors activities. Step outside today and enjoy. Bring a friend. Genesis 2:20-24

Saturday As you turn your prayers to yourself today, rest in the knowledge that life goes forward, and through it all, God is faithful to you. Joshua 1:5

Sunday Another day to gather in fellowship and praise God for the gift of life! Greet someone whom you may not know well. Matthew 25:34-36

The grace of God means something like: "Here is your life. You might never have been, but you are, because the party wouldn't have been complete without you. Here is the world. Beautiful and terrible things will happen. Don't be afraid. I am with you. Nothing can ever separate us. It's for you I created the universe. I love you." –Frederick Buechner
