Every Sunday is Palm Sunday
I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all; but
whatever I have placed in God’s hands, that I still possess. --Martin Luther
Welcome to Holy Week. It’s certainly different this year, as
we navigate a pandemic together. Other years, many churches would order palm
branches and wave them together to celebrate Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem,
but this year, we aren’t together, and we don’t have palm branches.
But we have palms. We have our palms.
Instead of waving branches, we can wave our hands in the
air, celebrating Jesus’ triumphant entry into (and presence in) our lives. Give
thanks for the sense of peace we can summon, even in the midst of chaos and
disorder.
We can press our palms together, or stretch them out in
front of us in prayer: offering our lives; lifting up our neighbors and friends
who are struggling; waiting quietly for God to speak.
And we can put those palms to work, helping those who need a
hand. Sure, we are currently physically distancing
from one another; we cannot, however, isolate ourselves and cut ourselves off
spiritually and emotionally. Find ways to reach out to friends and family. Each
night, when you pause to assess the day, give yourself a hand. You made it through another day.
Monday Pause
and reflect: How has your prayer life changed or re-formed during Lent? Give
thanks. Acts 16:25-31
Tuesday While Lent is a time for reflection, God
still wishes for his children to live joy-filled lives. What one thing could
you do that would increase your enjoyment of time spent with the Lord? (It’s
okay to say coffee.) 1 Timothy 6:17
Wednesday Regret over things past can rob us of
delight in our present lives. How, through the grace of God, will you seek to
make next week better than last? Isaiah
41: 10
Thursday Spring is a time of renewal of all living
things, a time to cast off the slough of winter and begin afresh. What is the
one biggest time-waster in your life? Ask God to help you change. Jeremiah 7:13
Friday We are the Church—together. God has created
each one of us to serve in unique fashion. What new way are you feeling called
to serve God? Joshua 24:14-15
Saturday Look deep today as you pray for yourself.
Is there something God is calling you to do that seems impossible? Pray for God
to answer your questions and ease your doubts. Now step out in faith and begin.
James 1:5-6
Sunday Easter is a time to rejoice as members of
the Family of Christ. It’s different this year—but God remains steadfast. As
part of this family, how might you seek to improve your relationship with
another? 1 Timothy 3:5
Let us raise a standard to which the wise
and honest can repair; the rest is in the hands of God.
