Help Wanted.

In my deepest, darkest moments, what really got me through was a prayer. . . . What I’ve discovered is that intimate connection and communication with my creator will always get me through because I know my support, my help is just a prayer away.

Our relationship with the Almighty is interesting. We quote Scriptures that characterize God as Father and humans as God’s children. And so we structure our human relationships in a similar fashion, don’t we?

As good parents, we encourage our children. From the time they are little, we tell them: You can do this! I know you can! We stress independence and learning skills like zipping zippers and tying shoes. It’s all about being prepared to grow up and leave the nest, able to survive on our own. And yet.

With God the Father, it’s different. Sure, God wants (and expects) us to use the gifts God has equipped us with. God wants us to be capable human beings.

But at the same time, God invites and encourages us to remain like little children, unashamed to come to God and ask for help.

Truth is, we need God, every moment of every day. And God never chides us or teases us for reaching out in prayer. God sends angels when we need them, tangible reminders that God is always present, always offering us a hand with that stuck zipper or knotted shoelace.

God’s love never fails. God’s hand is always ready to help.

Monday Begin the week in prayer for the pastoral leadership of your church family. Pray for our hearts to continually be receptive to the Spirit’s guiding. Acts 1:1-8

Tuesday Offer thanksgiving for the members of this congregation who serve in leadership positions, especially our Trustees. Pray for their continued willingness to follow God’s lead forward. Acts 1:9-10

Wednesday Pray today for the musicians in our midst as we transition in a fresh musical direction. Pray that, as in all things, we (and they) be open to new ways of thinking. Psalm 150

Thursday On this day, please offer prayers for our volunteers who give so freely of their time and talents. You are blessing in our lives. We cannot do ministry without you. Acts 2:17-21

Friday Part of the journey with Christ means being committed to offering Jesus to all in our community. Pray this day that God would guide your heart in whom you might invite to join us on this adventure. John 1:35-42

Saturday Change is seldom easy. As you pray today for yourself, confess before God how you really feel about an uncomfortable change in your life. Pray God’s healing touch on your heart if necessary, and on the hearts of those around us. John 1:14

Sunday Come before the Lord, pray and reflect as you are led and give thanks. John 4:31-32

If you can, help others. If you cannot do that, at least
do them no harm. –The Dalai Lama
