It's about time.

With God, there’s always an appointed time for things, and when you put God first, trust in God’s timing, and keep the faith, miracles happen! –Germany Kent

I am sure you have heard believers talk about our time versus God’s time, chronos versus kairos. The idea, in a nutshell, is that while we as humans have a finite number of days to live on this planet, and our days are carefully broken into manageable tidbits known as hours and minutes, Almighty Creator has no need for such marcations. A day is like a thousand years in the sight of the LORD. Things like that.

Kind of hard to understand, huh? But I think our living in this time of coronavirus has given us a better insight into what we mean when we talk about God’s time.

COVID time is when every day seems to go on and on. Today feels like yesterday’s leftovers, warmed up and served up all over again, maybe with a little something extra added for variety. And tomorrow we expect more of the same. Yawn.

God’s time may go on and on similarly, but I trust and believe that God never finds time spent with God’s children to be boring or monotonous. God always finds something new, something special about each day, even each moment.

What will it take for us to adjust our eyes? What can we do, each day, to bring a freshness to our daily lives? How can we take this period of seemingly endless monotony and turn it into an adventure with the Divine?

Can we close our calendars, snuggle up with God and borrow God’s eyes? Instead of worrying about tomorrow or the day after, spend time in the now. Enjoy. Savor. Rest. Breathe. . . .

Monday How often do you check your watch or look at your phone to know what time it is? Try to trust your internal clock today. 2 Kings 2:1-5

Tuesday How many calendars do you have hanging in your home? (Are they all on the right month?) What are their pictures? 2 Kings 2:6-8

Wednesday What makes each day of the week special for you? Do you have something you do every week, on the same day? (Is this a good thing?) 2 Kings 2:9-12

Thursday Take a moment today to think about what you were doing a year ago, when we first started quarantine. What do you miss most? Psalm 50:1-6

Friday Is there anything about this strange time that you really like and hope never goes back to the way it was? Mark 9:2-4

Saturday As you pray for yourself today, reflect on your own behavior. Have you been willingly compliant? Resentful? Pray for the community you live in. Mark 9:5-9

Sunday Worship comes in many forms. How will you worship God today and in the week ahead? (How will you serve God?) 2 Corinthians 4:3-6

They say God’s time is best, but you have to believe that God’s plan is the best, also. Never early, never late, always on time. --Goals Rider
